Daruhaldi is a bitter
tonic antiperiodic and
diaphoretic. The chief
constituents are those
of common Berberiabark,
the bitter principle
being the alkaloid
Berberine, which is
present in considerable
quantity, together with
tannin, resin, gum,
starch and other
alkaloidal matter. When
dried, it occurs in
undulating, cylindrical
pieces, 1 to 2 inches in
diameter. The drug has a
faint odour and a bitter
taste.
